According to the Ivorian website INFODROME, the Ivorian government is collaborating with the Swiss Center for Scientific Research (SCI) to pilot a bioprocessing technology at the Kumasi sewage treatment plant to convert manure into fertilizer, aiming to achieve sustainable agricultural development.
This project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been implemented in African countries such as Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Cameroon, and is currently in the pilot phase in Ivory Coast. Ivorian agricultural experts report that the trials have been highly successful, with crop yields from the converted fertilizer increasing by four to five times that of other crops. Furthermore, using manure as organic fertilizer effectively reduces greenhouse gas emissions and holds great potential for addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development. The African Development Bank has expressed its willingness to support investment and expansion of the project.
